Swim Meets 101

Meets are held every Friday for the majority of the swim season, with the location rotating to provide each team the opportunity to host at least one meet throughout the season.

Swimmer & Volunteer Check-In

Upon arrival swimmers should head down to the pool deck to check in with a member of the Otters coaching staff, who will then direct them to the team area where they can place their belongings.

If a Swimmer will be late or is going to miss the meet entirely, parents should send an email to the head coach as soon as possible.

Volunteers should check in with the head official who will direct them on on how to sign in. Volunteers should arrive on the early side, as a timer/clerk of course meeting will be held prior to the start of warm-ups.

What to Bring

There are couple of important items your swimmer should have with them when attending a Meet:

  • Team Shirt and Swim Cap
  • Swimsuit & Goggles
  • 2 Towels
  • Water Bottle
  • Healthy Snacks (No Nuts Please)

Swimmers do not need to bring a chair as there will be an assigned team area for everyone on deck.

Where Do Spectators Watch

While it may vary depending on the pool, but there will be a designated area for spectators to watch from the bleachers. We ask that unless there is an emergency parents and other spectators refrain from coming down onto the pool deck, to allow swimmers to focus on the Meet.

Meet sheets with the event order will be provided near the spectator area. These will show the heats, lanes, and seed times of swimmers participating in the meet.

Timeline for Meets

Swimmers should arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of the meet to ensure that they are ready for warm-ups, allowing the meet to start on time.

Warm-ups will start around 6pm; however, if all swimmers arrive by 5:45pm warm-ups may begin earlier.

After warm-ups, there will be a small break while swimmers are sent to clerk of course, after which the first events will begin.

Our goal is always to have meets end by the scheduled time of 8pm, but if the meet is running long, we ask that you and your swimmers please stay until the end to cheer for all our Otters in their races.

If your swimmer needs to leave early, please let the head coach know ahead of time or at the start of the meet. All swimmers must check-out with a coach prior to leaving the pool.
