Coaches' Recommendations
There are a lot of options available when looking for equipment for your swimmer, our coaches have several recommended brands and pieces of equipment that may narrow down your search. A recommended website to visit when shopping for equipment would be Swim Outlet, it has many different options and price ranges.
Goggles
These options are great as they are adjustable with a back strap and come with several nose pieces that allow swimmers to adjust to what is most comfortable. The most important aspect of goggles is that they are comfortable and stay on with minimal adjustment during long periods of time during practice and meets.
- Speedo Vanquisher 2.0
- Sporti Antifog
- TYR Swimple
Swimsuits
Competitive-style swimsuits are important for swimming as they generally are designed to facilitate easy movement and reduce drag which can make swimming significantly more challenging for young swimmers. For boys, this generally takes the form of a jammer-style swimsuit; for girls, it is a one-piece practice suit. As with any other type of clothing, the fit of a swimsuit from different brands may fit differently even if they are the same size, please look at the sizing chart when buying online or try the suit on in a store to ensure that it fits your swimmer comfortably.
Recommended Jammers:
- Speedo swim jammers
- Dolfin swim jammers
- Sporti jammers
Recommended One-Pieces:
- Sporti (thin or thick strapped) one-piece
- Speedo (thin or thick strapped) one-piece
- Dolfin (thin or thick strapped) one-piece
- Dolfin Uglies one-piece
Fins
Fins are a piece of equipment that can be vital in enhancing the technique and endurance of young swimmers. As with any other piece of equipment, it is important to use fins that are sized properly for the swimmer's using them to prevent injury. You don't need to go out and purchase they will be provided, but not all fins are one size fits all and some swimmers may find the ones available at South Run uncomfortable to use for any number of reasons.
Kickboards
While kickboards will be provided by the team during practice, some swimmers may be more comfortable having their own for a number of reasons. Not all kickboards are one size fits all and some swimmers may find the ones available at South Run uncomfortable to use for any number of reasons.
